New Gauntlet Enterprise Brokerage Adopts a Winning Formula
Jul 16, 2018
An experienced insurance professional, who puts the delivery of first-class customer service ahead of being part of a huge corporate insurance machine, has found a means of establishing his own business without losing access to the competitive quotes that smaller insurance brokers often cannot offer.
Dean Holloway from Shepton Beauchamp has established Holloway and Gauntlet Insurance Services Ltd, having taken up a recommendation from one of his peers – insurance broker, Craig Oakes, who is now running his own brokerage in Weymouth.
Like Oakes, Dean has taken up an option to run his business in partnership with Gauntlet Risk Management – a hugely respected commercial and Chartered Insurance broker with over two decades of experience in offering its clients the best cover, at the best price.
Whilst Holloway and Gauntlet Insurance Services Ltd will mainly focus on the insurance needs of business clients, it will also tap into the insurance service that Gauntlet offers to private individuals requiring home and motor insurance.
Establishing his business in this way, means Dean can concentrate on what matters to him – adopting a customer-centric approach to business and putting his clients’ needs first, every time he engages with them. He is building a brokerage based on principles such as visiting clients at a time of their choosing, even if that is after 5pm or at the weekend, and on the tenet of round-the-clock availability by telephone or email.
This service will be provided to clients across Somerset, even extending into the Devon and Dorset border areas. His experience means he can work with any client, from the small independent to one with a six-figure turnover.
The move into self-employment is one Dean has long considered. Like many dedicated brokers, he has not enjoyed seeing insurance brokers being bought out by huge organisations that offer a very impersonal service. Caring about the client and tailoring insurance protection to their requirements is at the heart of what he does, rather than cold calling and selling off-the-shelf protection.
Rather than spending hours in company sales meetings, he can concentrate on providing first-class advice, knowing he can offer clients insurance protection from over 300 different insurers, through Gauntlet’s relationships with the market and the largest broker network in Britain – Willis Towers Watson.
Having now taken the plunge and established his own business, Dean is utilising experience gained working as an underwriter for names such as Aviva and RSA, as a broking specialist with huge commercial brokers, and as a farm insurance expert employed by specialist agricultural insurance providers.
He has experience in all of the south west economy’s key sectors, from hospitality and leisure, farming, care and property, to motor, contract work, manufacturing, retail and wholesale.
His new business is now a new topic of conversation during his visits to the village pub and local gym in Martock and Shepton Beauchamp should benefit greatly from having their own broker in their midst, whose practice is to treat customers fairly and not charge additional administration fees when placing their risk.
Running his own business will also enable him to build his working hours around his family – wife Catherine and daughter Olivia.
Dean says: “Now I have had the confidence to go out on my own, I believe my working life will deliver much more satisfaction, as I work with clients in the way that matters to me, delivering an excellent service and showing huge commitment to their needs. The insurance world is becoming far too impersonal for clients and I wish to reverse the trend and work with clients in the way that brokers used to do, but with all the backing of cutting-edge modern IT. I am sure it will be a winning formula.”
